The Claim Review Builder

Designed for journalists, news organizations, and investigative bloggers. The ClaimReview schema is what powers Google's "Fact Check" snippets, allowing you to publicly verify or debunk viral statements.

1. The Claim & The Verdict

A Fact Check relies on clearly stating the original claim, and then assigning a standardized verdict to it.

The Claim Reviewed

This is the exact statement you are investigating (e.g., "The earth is flat" or "Company X is secretly tracking user data."). Keep this concise and objective.

The Verdict (Rating)

Google uses a numeric 1 to 5 scale for fact-checking. SPP provides a simple dropdown to automatically map your verdict (e.g., 1 = False, 3 = Half True, 5 = True). The text you select here is what will display in the Google Search results.

2. The Claim Entity (Origins & Appearances)

To prevent abuse of the Fact Check system, Google requires you to cite where the claim originated.

  • Claimant Name: Who said it? (e.g., a specific politician, a celebrity, or "Viral Social Media Post").
  • Date Claimed: The exact date the claim was made public.
  • First Appearance URL: Provide the direct link to the original tweet, article, or video where the claim was first stated.
  • Other Appearances (Viral Spread): Use the repeater tool to add additional URLs if the claim was repeated by other major news outlets or influencers. This proves to Google that the claim is significant enough to warrant a fact check.

3. Author E-E-A-T

Because fact-checking directly impacts public information, Google applies its strictest E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) filters to this schema type.

Verified Authorship

Use the Review Author panel to map the fact check directly to a specific author's profile. Linking this to a recognized journalist or expert gives the ClaimReview a much higher chance of being validated and displayed by Google News.
